Total Landscape Care says to be on the lookout for a few hot trends this season, first of which is sustainability. It’s not exactly a design feature, but sustainably sourced, ecological plants will be gracing the gardens and landscape selections of plenty of homes this season, with a particular emphasis on creating diversity and saving the bees. Expect to see lots of wildflowers that are native to the area as well as more use of natural materials like local crushed stone in place of mulched areas or tree stumps in place of fireside seating.
There are plenty of ways to incorporate these trends into your own garden. You should also consider planting more flowering shrubs like wisteria that can produce more pollen to help sustain and grow local bee populations.

Along the same lines as sustainability is the next trend: veggie gardens. If you’re interested in herbal medicine – like growing aloe plants, instead of buying that fake green stuff at the drug store – or love a good old backyard tomato, then you might be interested in this trend. Expect to see gardens full of useful items, like fruits and veggies, and plants like aloe, parsley, mint and more that have dual purposes as both an attractive garden species and a benefit in the home.

Bold
Country Living says we’ll be seeing bright and bold colors livening up gardens and landscapes in 2017. Think lilac, elderberry and indigo blended with flowers like tulips, daisies and roses.
