With 2016 here at our doorstep, it is time to start thinking about your resolutions, if you haven’t already done so that is. You should consider planting a tree as one of your resolutions. If you have been paying attention to our blog, you will have noticed that 2015 was a rough year for trees.
The drought in California has been like an apocalypse to so many trees and the entire topography of the state is changing before our very eyes. Then there are the diseases that affect trees, which seemed to be all over the news in 2015. Whatever your opinion on such crises, one thing is clear: The world needs more trees.
Sandy Feather of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writes, “Have you ever walked from bright sunlight into the full shade of the woods? On all but the most humid days, it feels as though someone turned on the A/C. […] The ecological benefits provided by large shade trees do not stop there. They improve air quality by absorbing pollutants such as ozone and nitrogen dioxide. They also intercept particulate matters from industrial emissions, smoke, dust, and pollen.”
Not only do trees make the world a healthier place, they also help make us better people, and isn’t that the whole point of resolutions? To help us transform into better people? Well, planting a tree is a surefire way to improve your life. While the effects may not be noticeable at first, they will be down the road.
