Description

Latin: Aesculus glabra

Mature Height/spread: 40′ height and a spread of 40′ at maturity.

Soil / Climate:  Full sun and partial shade are best. The Ohio buckeye can grow in slightly acidic, loamy, moist but well-drained soils.

Notes: Ohio buckeye are known for their yellow or white colored blooms and large seedpods. Leaves are palmate compound usually in sets of 5 to 7. Leaves are 6-9 inches long, with leaflets 3-5 inches long. Leaves and nuts are toxic and should not be consumed.

Wildlife: Nuts are eaten by squirrels.
